Yo!

45 minutes on the lifecycle this am. was great. Only 5 minutes of other stuff. 1 serving of fruit with bkfast. Nothing healthy for lunch. Did 5 hours of calls and email, the Indian portion of the wedding ceremony starts at 4:30 so we took a little walk and are now getting ready. I have never worn authentic Indian clothing before, much less wedding ceremony clothing. Beautiful colors and fabrics.

Wedding is at the Oheka Palace, beautiful old architecture. The Kahn family from 100 years ago. I got my 10 minutes of quiet in, felt healthy. Thanks MTM team, I would not be doing those 10 minute sessions otherwise, I have tried and failed!

All the best, KT

Yo DaVitans,

Quick note. 34 minutes on bike, good cardio. Then 30 minutes of strength, stretching, etc. Like yesterday, 5 sets of internal and external rotations, 2 sets of reverse flies, 2 sets of rows, 3 sets of curls. Yesterday 100 crunches, none today. 120 seconds of standing quad stretch, 60 seconds of bikram forward bend. 45 seconds of heel drop on steps. Good session.

Catch you later! KT

I just did 15 minutes of quiet time. Was glorious.

Yo!

Quick note – no I do not keep forgetting to put on my fitbit. Rather I cannot put it on myself. Before I left the US my assistant Julie put it on. She had a hard time, the holes aren’t really big enough. 4 days later my wife put it back on, after I charged it. Once again she had a hard time, took a bunch of tries and pushing. After the next charge I just did not bother to carry it down to my business meetings to ask someone, but I will start doing that again tomorrow.

Had a great day today. Slept 8 hours. Then did voicemail on the way to the airport. Then did 8 straight hours of work, 4 on email and 4 on meetings with Dennis & Guy, the 2 other DaVitans on the same plane. Then had a conference call on the way into New York. After that had a great workout, 32 minutes on the bike, then 35 minutes of stretching, PT, etc. Including using a massage stick to try to get my muscles loosened up.

Healthy day so far. My second meal, at the end of the flight included 1 serving of green beans, and after it I had 1 serving of strawberries. Since I will definitely have some veggies tonight I will hit the 5 servings. Tougher to do on the road, so easy to do when I am in La Casa del Mundo in Denver and my home.

Hope you are well! Savor the adventure of life! Your Mayor, KT

Greetings from somewhere over the Atlantic,

I am on the way back to the US of A, nothing quite like coming home. But first a stop in NYC for a wedding of the daughter of one of our international executives. Sunday will be the American version, Monday will be the Indian version. Should be fun!

I had a normal size apple for bkfast, so one serving there. I had a lot of broccoli with my spaghetti lunch, a double order, so that would be 1.5 servings. And I am doing hundreds of emails (can that count as quiet time?).

I hope you are all having a good day! KT

Yo DaVitans,

It is midnight in Germany. We had our first nephrologist conference in Europe, it was a big success! After the dinner I went out for one drink with one of our executives to catch up on his perspectives on all that we are doing in Europe and the Middle East, as well as to check in on his fulfillment on the job. Then I went to my room and caught up with my wife. Now to bed. Tomorrow the long journey back to the US.

Dinner tonight was one of those pre-prepared meals for the 100 folks there, so it was only one serving of veggies between the tomato salad and the dinner.

I am a bit exhausted. Need to get my sleep so I can get a huge amount of work done on the plane tomorrow, and then land and get ready for a dinner in new York tomorrow night, with dear old friends. Life’s rich pageant.

What we are doing in EMEA has such potential. The teammates here would like to extend their gratitude to all of those in the US who have supported the investment which has gotten them to this point.

Dear DaVitans,

Quick update after a terrible night’s sleep in Hamburg. I think I had too much caffeine during the day, to make up for the short night’s sleep the night before. Quite the conundrum. No caffeine for me today.

I already have had 2 servings of fruit today, Friday, and I have not even had lunch yet. Although once again I forgot to put on my fitbit, and to charge it. I am not getting a lot of steps during this international retreat anyway, so the numbers would be low. I did get a decent 20 minute workout on the elliptical this am, worked up a good sweat. 4 minutes of stretching after.

All the best, KT

Dear DaVitans,

Quick one, sorry for the gap. It is 1 am in Hamburg Germany. I just finished some conference calls back to the US, checking in with my assistants, and talking to Denise. Time for bed, have to get up at 6:45 to head to a another hotel nearby to get a workout in – the gym here has virtually zero equipment. Yikes.

GREAT day in Germany, we are doing very exciting things in our EMEA region (Europe and the middle east), clinically and otherwise. We employ about 130 nephrologists and are creating idea sharing across countries that has not existed before – living our Mission. We also have had DaVita Way Days in each country.

Last night I once again ordered triple vegetables, at least 2 servings maybe 2.5. also had a serving of fruit on plane on way here. Also tried to exercise today, went running around the beautiful lake in the middle of Hamburg … and 10 minutes into it pulled a muscle in my left calf AND my right hamstring. Both spots have been tender for a month, and they both snapped at virtually the same moment. If I had time to reflect I think I would be depressed. But both pulls are minor, so aside from walking funny I should recover quickly. I am just hoping I can do the lifecycle without aggravating them, I need my daily cardio. I also had a serving of veggies at lunch today, and a serving of fruit. Unfortunately at dinner we had pre-prepared meals and so it was only ½ a serving of veggies. Darn!

The silver lining is that given I had to walk back to the hotel I got in 20 quiet minutes walking across a lake with about 100 sail boats, it was so pretty.

I hope you are achieving your goals today! One for All , KT

From Uma (KT’s Travel Companion) about Tuesday, 23 June

Woke up to some pains and aches…nothing new since I was hyper-active over the weekend. Manage to do stretching, biceps and triceps with 5kg dumbbells each and sit-ups – each rep at 25. Evening was worse…no exercise!

Today I am vegan, so never short of vegetables – lightly sautéed ladies fingers topped on steamed tofu, indian palak paneer (spinach gravy mixed with cottage cheese) with capati (indian wheat bread); finished with 3 scoops of pomegranate seeds and 1 zespri kiwi.

Decided for a change to update my diary of my 8 weeks in DaVita. Questions – what does it look like each day for me…how am I feeling end of the day, what am I learning, what’s excites me the next day, what bothers me …what I need to overcome? Summarizing everything – I feel challenged and the amazing teammates around me and being KT’s travel companion ….I feel blessed!

Tried to get into meditation state after that wasn’t a smart move I realized. Unfinished tasks keep haunting me …mind just couldn’t calm down. My remedy to read or listen to music. Choose the latter …was nice doing it on bed. Gradually got into the rhythm of doing breathing exercise! That worked magic even it was for only for 5 minutes!
