Flash Report!

Tuesday am exercise was 26 minutes on lifecycle, low intensity.  Legs were tired.  15 minutes of stretching.  Then 55 minutes of deep tissue work on my injured leg, painful but hopefully will get me back out running by this weekend.

Tuesday am was a peach, a wonderful palisades peach from Colorado, very flavorful!  Lunch was another powerhouse of broccolini, zucchini and squash, and some other veggies, a solid 3 servings.  Chased by a cup of strawberries, so a strong day so far!

All the best to you, I am heading to do a town hall with 60 preceptors from across Kidney Care US.  Love doing town halls, love my job.

Have a good one!  kt

Quick MTM Flash !

Weight 191.4 this am.  Perhaps starting to pick up momentum in the closing stretch.  To achieve this I have done creative things like eat less, cut out desserts, and less alcohol.  Perhaps I can patent that novel approach.

Yesterday lunch was a powerhouse of chicken with green beans, peppers and zucchini, 2.5 servings with great corn sauce.  Dinner was a solid pork tenderloin left over plate with 1.5 servings, a mixture of green beans and asparagus.

Catch you later, got to run!

Yo DaVita HealthCare Partners, the 3600 Partners in Health !!

Sorry, things have been hectic, I don’t know exactly where I left off.  Let me take a stab, and Village Vitality will let me know the gaps.

I had my annual FRED Weekend for Men (friendship, relaxation, exercise, and discourse).  11 of us.  Had serious conversations about foreign policy, education reform, as well as the highlights and lowlights of the last 5 years of our lives (family, professional, and individual).  Was outstanding.  We had two outside speakers, a professor on foreign policy, and a state legislator on ed reform.  We had some good reflective time.

But on to the metrics!  On Friday I did 50 minutes of road biking, up 2000 feet of vertical, so that was good.  On Saturday I did 104 minutes of HIGH intensity mountain biking, that was GLORIOUS.  Many vertical feet, probably about 1500, but much tougher on a mountain bike on single track trails for the most part.  Today Sunday I did 60 minutes of good intensity mountain biking, some good vertical.

Sunday lunch was 1 serving of green beans, with my chicken.  Breakfast was a cup of berries, mainly straw, blue, and rasp.  Saturday dinner was 2 servings of a medley of vegetables, with pork tenderloin.  Saturday lunch was bbq chicken with 2.5 servings of zucchini, corn, pepper, and black beans.  Power-packed!  Saturday breakfast had half a serving of mixed berries.  I also ate a banana mid-afternoon.  Friday dinner was just 1.5 servings of veggies, I don’t remember what they were.

For dinner tonight I will have left-over lamb chops from Friday, plus 2 servings of veggies, one of green beans and one of corn medley with some other stuff in it.

Today has been a good day for catching up on 22 voicemails and about 150 emails so far.  Plus a little planning/thinking time.

I hope you are all well.  Go Team !!!

Yo DaVitans !!

Well Village Vitality told me I am still in the top 10%.  At the 6% mark.  But what really matters is hitting your personal goals, not where you are relative to others.

Today was a powerful one.  After an unhealthy breakfast of steak and eggs (more on that later) I had a lunch with 4, that’s right, count’em 4, servings of vegetables as I returned to the friendly confines of La Casa del Mundo.   Broccoli, brussel sprouts, zucchini, wow.  and a cup of strawberries as a chaser.

Dinner was not as good.  The restaurant did not have side orders of veggies, so I should have made a special request.  Instead I just had half a serving of veggies with my duck, in the form of lettuce and some other little bits of stuff.  darn.

Back to the steak and eggs.  We had left over steak from the night before.  Didn’t want to let it go bad.  And I got up early and started my day with 30 minutes of intense yardwork, wielding a shovel, I was sweating profusely even though it was only 7 am.  That counts as 30 minutes of exercise.  Then I went to the state park for my last run before we returned to Denver.  41:55, a new personal best on the Potawatomi East Classic run.   After that my knees were shot, but 600 milligrams of ibuprofen took care of that.  I also did about 12 minutes of stretching before and after, so Village Vitality and Marsha you can add those things up.

I got back to denver about 12:30 pm, and worked until 7:00 pm, a series of meetings and calls and 30 minutes for some email (fortunately I got 2 great hours of email in on the plane, I need those plane trips to play catch-up on emails, as my days are usually scheduled straight thru, 90% of time).  Then I had a business dinner with Dennis Kogod, we got thru a pretty good list of stuff.  We stopped at 9:30, I did voicemail on the 25 minute ride home, and now I am done.

All the best to my Partners in Health!    Your mayor, KT

From KT – August 7

Yo!

It is about 11 pm on Wednesday night, so forgive me for a quick one.  We had a great 86th birthday dinner for my mom tonight, at our Wisconsin cottage, the area where I have been coming every year since I was born.   Incredibly relaxing place for me to be, especially with family.  We in fact decided we are going to try to renovate part of my mom’s cottage so she has a shot at coming back next year—we need a nursing home type bathroom and bedroom type set-up, plus 24 hour caregiver support, plus rotating siblings to perhaps allow her another visit next summer, maybe even for a month.  That would be an amazing gift to give her.

I had an orange for breakfast, I may have already reported that.   I had smoked turkey with 3 servings of broccoli and cauliflower at lunch, some of it with spicy bbq sauce.  I also had a cup of blueberries.   Trust me it is Match the Mayor that is provoking these kind of lunches at the cottage!   But I am enjoying them, much more than I would have expected.

For dinner I grilled big ribeye steaks, and had a big one myself, with 6 or 7 ears of corn.  To be honest I think corn on the cob for me is as much a delivery vehicle for salt and butter as it is a corn experience, but I do love the taste of sweet corn and order it often when it is on a menu.  Colt, the chef at La Casa del Mundo headquarters, also makes a mean sweet corn sauce!  So I will leave it to Village Vitality to score the corn at dinner.

On the exercise front I did a low  intensity 60 minute bike ride, with virtually no stretching or other exercise to go with it.  I ended up working too many hours to do more, although I did have a wonderful 1 hour walk with Denise, and I did get a painful deep tissue massage which hopefully will allow me to run again tomorrow morning without cramping or pulling a muscle.

Tomorrow we fly back to Denver.  I hope you each are having a good and successful week, including lots of Colorful Choices!

One for all!   KT

From KT – August 6

Good Morning DaVitans !

In my language, DaVita applies to the entire enterprise.   The DaVita enterprise is made up of DaVita Kidney Care, DaVita HealthCare Partners, DaVita Rx, DaVita International, and Paladina.  Or you can refer to the different businesses as just KC, HCP, RX, Intl, and Paladina.

Portugal is the international leader in participation, with 9 teammates!  Poland is in second place with 5.

As of a couple days ago I was performing at the 91st %tile, although I don’t know how much my Wisconsin cottage sojourn will bring it down.

This morning (Wednesday) I started with a big orange, along with my organic sausage.  Village Vitality told me I had a reporting gap on Saturday exercise, Village Vitality I did 26 minutes on the lifecycle with modest intensity and then 7 minutes of stretching stuff.

Last night I had 1.5 servings of broccoli and cauliflower with dinner, and then 3 great hot dogs made from the meat of the steer my niece raised, and won a 4H FFA (future farmers of America) award with.  They were great, I have to ask her to ship some to Colorado.   My Tuesday lunch was a strong and big one , a cup of berries (straw, rasp, blue, and black or boisen I forget which is which), and 2 full servings of broccoli and cauliflower with my chicken.  My Tuesday breakfast had the normal high fiber cereal.

Did I already report my glorious run thru the woods yesterday?  45 minutes, including the 2 hill sprints at the end.  I had to ice my left knee at the end, and take 2 advil, but it was glorious!

Today I started with a 60 minute phone call with the lead director of the Board, then turned to email and some planning work.  I will do calls from 11 am to 1 pm then do my exercise and enjoy freedom in the latter half of the afternoon.  probably will do some brush clearing, and then have my mom and sister and niece over for grilling some steaks and corn on the cob.

One of my calls will be an update on our European and Saudi Arabia operations, especially the big ramp-up in Saudi.  Yikes.

I hope all 3600 of you, including 185 friends and family, are having a good day of Colorful Choices!

One for All,

KT

YO I LOVE THE SUMMER TIME !!!

I am in Wisconsin, with lots of family.   My mom, 3 of my siblings, neices/nephews, old friends, etc.

Yesterday was no breakfast, and 2 cups of berries for lunch.  Straw, rasp and blue.   Also 3 ears of corn.  No dead animals consumed.

But dinner, I must confess, was a delicious cheeseburger!  With a salad, but that is a minor offset to the culinary delight that the burger represented. Also some Wisconsin cheese curds, a local delicacy which probably should count for negative points.

Oh well.   This morning I did a 45 minute run first thing, in the beautiful Potawatomi State Park.  Since then I have been on the phone for conference calls for a couple hours, but will wrap up that in another 30 minutes.  Then freedom!  (except I need a painful deep tissue massage to deal with my leg tightness after the two runs and bike ride, so I can get back out there tomorrow … also a few more emails if you would please allow, I need to do some HCP communicating)

I hope you are all well.
