From KT – June 25, 2013
Good Morning Citizens of the DaVita Village,
There have been over 21,000 page view of the MTM (Match the Mayor) website, and over 9,000 views of the Mayor’s Journal.
That pressure, I mean support, has helped me get down to 190, now down 4 pounds. Funny how one can feel the difference in your belt and pants tightness so soon. I typically wait until I am at a certain weight for 2-3 days before counting it, as my weight fluctuates a lot day-to-day depending on dehydration etc. It would feel good to get back to an 8 in that second slot.
Yesterday I had a strong 26 minutes on the bike, at a higher resistance than usual. Then I did a full 20 minutes of rehab. Not clear it is getting any better, but I am not close to giving up.
I am supposed to leave tonight for 3.5 days of mountain biking/camping. We bike most of the day, then hit a campsite for reading time, quiet time, and dinner. We sleep in tents, and many of the campsites are special. This trip is on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, I have done it twice before. Beautiful. It is a supported trip, in that there are guides to help us avoid getting lost during the day, and a truck moves the tents and food along the trail. Awesome exercise, very peaceful and contemplative evenings. We also do “go-round” questions at lunch and before dinner, wherein I get to ask serious questions about our Mission, our Core Values, our Village, our strategy, our operations, our DaVita University. I take extensive notes, and we get good ideas. The Tour DaVita was invented around one of these campfires, for example.
Today is a big strategy day, multiple sessions. Also some compliance meetings, and a lawsuit session. Two executive feedback sessions round it out. then I hope I can fly away, since I already cancelled the last 2 days of this trip.
My hopes are that you are achieving your goals! Together we can do amazing thing. I am grateful for the support and “oversight” I am getting! I also had zero diet cokes yesterday, this MTM stretch is my best diet coke stretch in years.
One for All, KT

Next time, train the way I am…I started at 196 in January (was 203 at my peak, all work/meetings, ZERO exercise))…as of today down to 179!!! I am 5’6″.
You can get an idea of what I do by looking at my log…
On the other hand, you have WAY MORE meetings than I!!!!
Your productivity amazes me!! And you STILL make the time to exercise,
Great leadership by example,
Tali

Hi KT,
Congratulations on the weight loss and keeping off the diet cokes!
The camping trip sounds wonderful!!
Having time to reflect, rest and meet in the outdoors reminded me of what Hill wrote on his book (Think and Growth Rich)… that Eddison, Ford and Firestone used to camp for about a week in the wild and have meetings to get ideas and improve their business; they all became extremelly successful people.
Thank you for inspiring and for sharing the great moments with us.
Enjoy the trip!!
Alejandro
