Yo DaVita, I am back!
I have good news and bad news (I am typing this on Monday afternoon, it will be a long one since I have not done an entry since Thursday night).
The good news is there are now over 1000 of us, digitally joining hands to improve our health! The Village Lives, when individuals decide to make it so … and you have.
The bad news is that I gained weight last week, and did not get great exercise the last few days. Here are the ugly facts.
Friday morning started with a light workout. 24 solid intensity minutes on the lifecycle, only 3 minutes of stretching, for a total of 27. This was not enough given I had ordered a midnight cheeseburger the night before. The rest of the day was work, followed by a huge dinner.
On Saturday morning we headed to the airport to fly back to the States. It was a high performance day from a work perspective – On the flight to New Jersey I did a couple hours on DaVita RX with Josh Golomb sitting next to me, then I cleared 650 emails and sent 172. On the flight to Denver I did a couple hours with Tom Usilton sitting next to me, and cleared another 600 emails and sent another 160. All in all I worked 14 hours in a row, and was the only one of our group of 4 that did not sleep at all, that will show those young whippersnappers. I also ate a lot more than I should have.
But therefore by the time I got home at 7:30 pm on Saturday night, it was about 2:30 am for my body and I was pretty burnt out. I met with my assistant for an hour to go over the schedule for the coming 2 weeks, then headed down to the basement and did weak 22 minutes on the lifecycle and 2 minutes of stretching. Total=24. Better than nothing, but not good enough.
On Sunday morning I got up at 6:15 and met 2 biking buddies at 7:30. We rode our road bikes up Lookout Mountain, 40 minutes of continuous climbing, but I did not push it as hard as I should have. Total biking minutes of 53. I raced home to pack, because I had to leave for the airport again at noon, to get to a meeting in Portland. I flew with John Hickenlooper, the current Mayor of Denver and likely to be elected the next Governor of Colorado. He is a big fan of DaVita’s, because of our emphasis on trying to be a community first and a company second, and our overall spirit – and he enjoys the fact that I am a fellow “Mayor”.
We were up until midnight, and I could not get myself out of bed to workout this morning. Now I am on a plane to Washington DC, hoping I can get in a medium workout at the hotel before my dinner with a senior CMS official tonight. Tomorrow I fly to Milwaukee, Wednesday I work in Chicago, Thursday I start with a meeting in Connecticut and then fly to Washington DC for afternoon meetings, then fly in the evening back to Colorado for meetings that start first thing Friday morning. Friday afternoon I fly to California in time for dinner with my wife and daughter who is soon to leave to study in Spain for the fall. Saturday I head for the airport at noon or so to fly to Tacoma to join 400 wonderful DaVitans for the Tour DaVita, which I will need at that point to get some awesome exercise.
So in the 8 days from Friday to Saturday, I will have been in Warsaw, London, Denver, Portland, DC, Milwaukee, Chicago, Fairfield Connecticut, DC, Grand Junction Colorado, San Francisco, and Tacoma. That’s 12, count’em, 12 cities. Whew.
Lucky I love my job at the Village. Hopefully I will get some good stuff done for you guys, you deserve it !!!

Make sure you calculate in all the running for your flights at the airport, and lifting those suitcases, overnightbags and your laptop.
You make me tired just reading your blog. My word!! Guess that is why you are the Mayor!!
You inspire us all and are a true role model for us. Thank you for all you do and I considered it an honor to finally meet you at Nationwide this year.
Continue doing the fantastic job you are and keep up with the working out.
Not sure where you are, but I am in the middle of New Mexico heading toward Arizona by the end of the week.

I too get tired just reading about your busy schedule. You are awesome to be able to keep up with that schedule. We can’t always get in a good work out but at least you try with such a busy schedule and that is a great motivation to us all. I hope to join be joing the Tour Davita next year. That is my goal and I plan to make that goal. 🙂 Thanks for being a great inspiration and good luck with the Tour this year.

Boy KT that is a crazy schedule. I felt bad about not getting in a workout yesterday due to a migraine. I should have pressed myself to keep going. If you can do it so can I.
Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to everything! We should get you a cape to show you are our super hero! Have a good one!

OK – Late is better than never; which is what my workout plan has been. I did do the important things first: 1. I bought new workout clothes – hoping to set my mood. 2. I called my previous gym/rehab trainer and can rejoin anytime I want. 3. Finished my neck Rehab and am released to ‘carry on’. This is the part I am having trouble with. I thought the new DeNovo in Carthage,NC was actually a workout program, but sadly it is not. I fooled myself again.
So here’s my first week challenge – hit 1 bucket of balls, with or without my husband, at the driving range this week. I’ll just start small. I am impressed with all of you – your drive and honesty is inspiring. Thank you for that.

KT, your schedule makes my head spin, can’t figure out how you even know where your at when you wake up, lol. I feel like a slacker as I am only walking at this point and working on portion control and healthy snacks and meals. Have not had a fast food hamburger in about 2 months and only go to Quizno’s and have the grilled chicken salad for any kind of fast food.
Sara, all we can do is take it one day at a time and forgive ourselves if we have a slip and then get right back on track. There is no such thing as a small start : ).
Georgia, I can’t wait to meet you at Tour Davita next year, you are so inspiring.
Everyone makes Route 66 so much fun and are so inspiring.
