Greetings to the Good People of DaVita,
It is Tuesday morning as I type this, I am on a plane from DC to Milwaukee. Good morning to our Team Health that is 1011 strong as of a couple days ago!
Yesterday was a MM failure – I literally did not get exercise all day. This is rare for me. But by the time I got from Portland, Oregon to Washington DC, and hit a big traffic jam to boot, I had to go straight to the dinner. The dinner did not end until after 9 pm, and I had too much work and felt too tired to hit the gym at the Marriot. So the Monday minutes were zero, the big zippo, read it and weep.
The good news is the dinner was with Marilyn Tavenner, one of the most senior officials in all of CMS. She and I discussed lots of general American healthcare issues, but we also were able to cover 3 important kidney care issues. She is a thoughtful and experienced leader, with a background in hospitals as well as government. It is so good that people like her are willing and able to take jobs like that. She also is going to try to come and speak at Nationwide (that is our annual Manager Leadership meeting, about 2600 DaVitans attend) next year – she attended one of our Nationwide’s before she entered the government, and loved what she saw of the Village you have build.
I quit working at 11 pm and read until midnight. That way I was able to hit the gym this morning, I did 24 solid minutes on the bike, 30 push-ups, 100 crunches, and 4 minutes of stretching, for a total of 33 minutes. My body and soul wanted to do more, but I had to scoot to do a call and get to the airport. But I am back on Route 66 with all of you, and ready to ride to the end and cross the finish line with all 1000 of you!
In Milwaukee I will visit with a large physician group and 2 clinics. Then I will drive to Chicago, doing 4 conference calls along the way. Once in Chicago I have a DNN call. That stands for DaVita News Network (like CNN, get it? I am one clever fellow). It is a periodic call with about our top 100 leaders, where we catch up on key victories and defeats around the Village.
After the DNN call I have a quarterly meeting with one of our SVP’s. I call these the Fun Week meetings. I am not sure anyone else would have named it that.
I hope you are all achieving your goals – despite my disappointing last several days, if you check my grid I think I am still on track overall. One thing I have found is that even when I cannot do all the exercise I want, it is so important to get in there or out there and do some. So far yesterday is my only miss.
Carpe Diem!

Thank you for doing another Match the Mayor. I am 61, within a health weight range (I’m 5’5″ and 140 lbs), and in good health; however, I wanted to tone up and loose about 5-10 pounds. I have lost 1 1/2 lbs…..Yah!!! It’s a challenge for me to budget my time so that there is time after or before work. This program has given me a nudge in the right direction and I am walking or using the exercise bike as much as time permits. I also plan to use my total gym this week. Thank you again for caring for the team.

Just a quick note to let you know how much I am enjoying getting fit with all of my fellow teammates!! I am *ahem, cough, cough* a 41 year old “new again” Mom of a 4 1/2 month old. (It has been a whole 8 years since my last little one was born…she’s not so little anymore:) Anywayyyy, it is much more difficult this time around to lose my *ahem, cough, cough* last 10 pounds of post pregnancy weight…or, as I like to call it…my 4th trimester! So, thank you for motivating me!! I am busy with Zumba, hikes and laps in the pool…which, by the way, are NOT as easy as they used to be!! On Sunday, my exercise will be ROLLERSKATING!! One of our fellow teammates and his family recently lost their home in a fire. In the spirit of the Davita Village, we, his fellow teammates are getting together at a local skating rink to raise money to help his family recover!! I am soooo very inspired by and proud of all of our teammates who are strapping on a pair of skates in order to help out one of their own. ONE FOR ALL!!! Thank you again and I look forward to the rest of my Route 66 journey:)
