    Yo KT,

This is the first time that I have signed up for Match the Mayor and it really is motivating me! I had been falling short on my exercise regiment lately and this is exactly what I needed to get back on it. Since signing up for MM III, I’ve established a regular routine of biking, running and lifting weights.

Tonight, I went to the hotel gym when I got to Denver for a 90 minute workout that kicked my butt but energized me at the same time. I followed that for a nice light dinner and now I’m feeling ready for my meetings at Casa Nueva tomorrow.

Thank you for setting the right example for the rest of the Village! See you on the Tour in Tacoma in a few weeks!

    Greetings, fellow Mayor-matchers!

I had a fabulous Labor Day weekend, and I sure hope that you all did as well. We spent Friday-Monday at a beautiful Minnesota lake resort, and I have to share that you guys motivated me to plan ahead and pack our camper with nutritious, low-fat, high protein, high fiber – yet delicious – food choices. Even our snacks were pretty good choices, for the most part. I had just 2 s’mores all weekend! We also kept empty calories from beverages containing alcohol to a minimum – a grand total of 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine were consumed the entire weekend – not bad at all. Those darn empty calories do have a way of sneaking up on us if we’re not mindful, eh? Regarding exercise, we didn’t do anything too intense – biking and walking of the non-vigorous variety – but we did get off our bottoms at a very minimum of 30-60 minutes each day versus just sitting around in front of the campfire or on the boat. We enjoyed our bikes a lot and would have utilized them more had there been better trail options where we were camping.

I did gain a tad over the weekend, however I believe that to be a result of a higher sodium intake versus too many calories consumed, so I’m not at all worried about that little blip.

I got right back to the gym last night and I am meeting a friend for a workout after work today, too.

Enjoy the rest of your short week, all!

For the past 5 months I have gotten serious about my weight reduction. Although I eat a lot of the right foods, I was not losing any weight. My doctor told me I need to exercise. I said” I’m not doing that!” My life is too busy already. Just as soon as I said that, my weight continue to climb. I reached 195 lbs and was quite upset. At 52 yrs old and no health issues, I felt blessed but knew I had to do something. I gave up sugar, white flour and began to walk 45 minutes 3 to 4 days per week. I am now down to 175 lbs. I go to a walking park where so many people in Delaware choose to work on fitness, cross training, etc. It is a very scenic route in Glasgow, De where you may find deer grazing in the grass, lots of gophers just hanging out, you may pass some barns, beautiful trees, geese, birds singing and may run into a small pond in a wooded area. The path length is 2.7 miles one way, and if you really feel motivated, there’s a steep hill to challenge you! Some people bring their dogs, jog with the baby coach, roller blade, or ride their bicycles. There are also tennis courts and basket ball courts. It amazes me how so many people in Delaware are motivated to stay fit. So I say to all of you today; If I can do it so can you! All it took was better food choices and getting out and just walking? Keep up the good work KT!

    Good morning!!

I am having so much fun with this. Thank you so much for including us. I decided that I want to tackle my weight more.. so I am going to join Weight Watchers.

I love walking but have decided to kick it into gear and commit myself to something so I am going to train to walk (quickly) a half marathon. I’m kind of excited about it to be honest with you.

One of my favorite people that I love to read their quotes is the late Coach John Wooden. One of my favorites that I quote to my teenage girls is

“Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be.”
    John Wooden

So that’s what I have stuck on my refrigerator and at my desk here at work.

    We all can do this..

    Thanks again for everything

    Deb

Well I rested over the weekend. Didn’t do much exercising but Tuesday after work I was right back in the gym doing my 105 minutes on the elliptical machine. I love that machine. This coming up monday I am meeting with a trainer to do some weight training. I had my back go out the worst it has ever done a few weeks ago so I am very nervous about reinjury. So the trainer to going to help me strengthen my back/core so I don’t have another injury. My diet has been pretty good expect for this past Friday. I have one slice of really good pizza. With the gastric bypass you are kind of forced to eat healthy. Sugar and fat will make you sick, lol. I have 55 more pounds to go to reach goal. So excited about this challenge.

    Yo Rick!
Always good to hear from my Canadian friend, I hope I get to mountain bike with you again like we did a few years ago. I am glad the hotels we use in Denver have adequate exercise facilities. See you on the Tour!

    Dear Sharon,
That area sounds glorious, reading your note put the most positive images into my head, thank you for that. Sometimes visualizing good things is a powerful step forward in making them come true. Like you did.
