KT thank you for encouraging the Village to become more active. As a RD, I know how important exercise is for accomplishing your weight loss goals, as well as, improving your own self worth. I rode the Tour DaVita and I was so impressed by the Davita Villages participation in this extraordinary fundraising event. I would love to see Davita coordinate other fundraising events which encorporate physical activity and fun into a challenge. I am personnally signing up for my 5th 1/2 Marathon in hopes of loosing my last 10 lbs. I challenge other Davita teammates to join me. I never thought I could do 1 mile running or even 103 miles on a bike, but I have proven to myself that I can accomplish anything I set my mind on if I really try. Thanks again and I hope to see you on the race course.

    Hello Mayor!

I’m new to the village, just about three months of coming aboard. When I saw the Match Mayor commitment, this is has been on my heart for awhile, I decided this is my year to get healthy so I consulted with my doctor and he recommended some things. One thing he recommended is to start walking, well being new I started walking on my breaks and lunch here. I even map out a route in our parking lot at work that makes a mile, some ladies saw me and asked if they could walk. Some can only do 1/4 of a mile some go 3 miles with me (whenever we can meet). I now have a total of 4 women walking with me. I personally have lost weight (30 lbs since working here, but a total of 80 lbs this year), my blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol are all stable I use to take meds for all of them I’m happy to report I’m off all my meds, I just take vitamins now. What motivates me is the end results, I feel so much better, which in turn I have a better attitude, sleep better, work hard and play hard, who can ask for anything more. So if I anyone says I can’t exercise let them know if I could anyone can.

    Sincerely Happy,
    Maggie

I have been walking between 30 and 45 minutes per day 4 times a week since the Match the Mayor challenge started. I also started watching what I have been eating, and not taking seconds at dinner. (Very hard to do with my wife’s great cooking!) So far, I have lost 8 pounds with Match the Mayor. I have more energy to get me through the day and I am sleeping better, too.

Thanks KT for the inspiration! My new routine will remain in place after Match the Mayor concludes. My goal is to lose additional weight through the holiday season. A challenge that I am up for!

My weight is down almost 20 lbs. and my BMI is down by 3.3 points. I’m exercising 5-6 days per week, 2 days/week at the gym with a trainer. I got a little side-tracked by Thanksgiving, but we’ve all gotten past that hurdle now, so it’s on to the next holiday feast to manage in a healthy way!

Same here, I am maintaining my new exercise and nutrition routines even after MTM is concluded and at least until my BMI is in the “normal” range! I’m getting there!

Thanks for making it fun, KT!

I started getting interested in my overall fitness level two years ago with Tour DaVita. I was able to ride all the miles the first year but I could tell I was not in great shape. I worked even harder the second year and was able to do the century ride but still needed work with overall fitness and nutrition. I have found that at 40 something it required a lifestyle change. Nutrition was my weakness. As a nurse we have been conditioned on eating on the run and quick poor food choices. Since Matching the Mayor I have really worked at adding a weight program, a running program and altering my nutritional habits(this was the toughest part) and I have lost 18-20 pounds and dropped 3 dress sizes. What a great program and I encourage everyone in this program to consider adding the Tour as part of your fitness goals. Tour Davita has helped me to love to ride and to keep fitness in my life everyday, and it has spilled over into my husband’s life too! We ride together!!! Great way to spend time together in our busy lives. 🙂
