Happy Holidays to the DaVita Village,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving — and special thanks to our caregivers who took care of patients during the holiday !!!!
I will do a quick report here, a mix of good and bad news, it is Sunday about noon:
a. My weight is up 2-3 pounds, back to when we started. Ouch! It might be a bit high now because I have had alot of salty foods the last week, and that leads to abnormal fluid retention. But no matter what this is not looking good, I fell off the wagon the last 3 weeks.
b. Diet cokes is a victory story. Zero on thursday, friday and saturday.
c. Yesterday was another big exercise day. 2 and 3/4 hours on a mountain bike, with a person much more fit and better skilled than I. This was high intensity exercise, even the downhills required alot of concentration as there was still some snow and lots of rocks and slippery pine needles …. I was exhausted at the end, but loved entering the 165 minutes into my little exercise log. Not much stretching, so the total was 170 minutes.
Today should be a solid day, maybe better — so all in all the Thanksgiving long weekend has been very good exercise, I took good advantage of the free time. Not enough to offset the calories, but oh well ……
I am thinking of the other 900 of you each day at some point in my exercise. Often brings a little smile to my face as I picture us all in a room, or on a trail, or grunting away at the same push-up.
Carpe Diem! KT

Hello Mayor!
I’m new to the village, just about three months of coming aboard. When I saw the Match Mayor commitment, this is has been on my heart for awhile, I decided this is my year to get healthy so I consulted with my doctor and he recommended some things. One thing he recommended is to start walking, well being new I started walking on my breaks and lunch here. I even map out a route in our parking lot at work that makes a mile, some ladies saw me and asked if they could walk. Some can only do 1/4 of a mile some go 3 miles with me (whenever we can meet). I now have a total of 4 women walking with me. I personally have lost weight (30 lbs since working here, but a total of 80 lbs this year), my blood sugars, blood pressure and cholesterol are all stable I use to take meds for all of them I’m happy to report I’m off all my meds, I just take vitamins now. What motivates me is the end results, I feel so much better, which in turn I have a better attitude, sleep better, work hard and play hard, who can ask for anything more. So if I anyone says I can’t exercise let them know if I could anyone can.
Sincerely Happy,
Maggie
