Greetings to the Good People of DaVitaLand,
It is Sunday night. I last left you on Friday afternoon as I was flying from the east coast to Denver. I was able to work things out so I got a short workout in before dinner. I was not great company as I was still not feeling well, but it was a fundraiser dinner and we had committed to go.
So Friday was 20 medium minutes on the bike, and 11 additional minutes of stretching and a few push-ups/crunches. Not impressive, but the best I could do.
Friday night I slept for 11 hours! Guess my body was telling me that if I want to get healthy I needed to give it a break. I went back and checked and leading up to November 6 I had worked 31 days in a row. Then only one day off since then. Even though most of the weekend days were significantly less than a full day, this is still not healthy.
Unfortunately the 11 hours of sleep was not enough to get me healthy, so I did not work on Saturday. I did a medium 27 minutes on the lifecycle, an additional 10 minutes of stretching, and had zero diet cokes. So the day felt very good, and in the late afternoon we started the daunting task of moving into our new house in Denver.
Saturday night I got another 9 hours of sleep, still not quite enough to shake this thing, but I am feeling better. The entire day was consumed by moving stuff into and around our new home, except for the workout of 25 medium minutes on the bike, and 14 minutes of stretching and a set of push-ups and crunches. Zero diet cokes again, I don’t know if I have had 2 zero days in a row during this campaign or not, but that is good.
It is hard for me to get the big 90 minute activity sessions in when I am staying in a hotel. We also got 10 inches of snow on saturday/sunday. I am going to try to make it up next weekend and over Thanksgiving. In the meantime I am hoping hoping hoping that I wake up healthy tomorrow on Monday am, I am sick of being under the weather, if you forgive the pun.
All the best to all of you! Over 800 of us, well into the second month of the 60 day campaign for healthier lives!
Carpe Diem, KT

First off let me say that my heart goes out to you and your wife regarding the injury of your son; I’ll keep y’all in my prayers.
I too have much to be grateful for from all my fellow teammates. I received a call the week before the challenge began that my father was dying. I flew out immediately and my FA and fellow nurses in the entire city picked up my days for me while I was gone. I was able to assist my mother and family in caring for my father at home for a week before he left us. Needless to say, exercise was far from my mind at that time. However the following week starting on 10/19, I had non-traditional exercise. My family and I were rebuilding a barn on our small family farm. This involved 10 plus hours of heavy lifting, carrying lumber, digging post holes, etc, etc…
Once I returned home, I have consistently met my goals by riding my bike to work two times a week for a total of four hours each week; riding my bike four to six hours each weekend; and walking a minimum of one hour on each day I do not ride. Given all this, I have lost four of the ten pounds that was my goal for the year; all due to the exercise.
Keep it up everyone, we are on our way to a very healthy end to this year.
Take care and be safe everyone,
Toni

Time for my weekly Wednesday update, I guess!
Last week I thought I had a way to go weigh in, but I wasn’t really able to. The GNC I thought would have a scale didn’t, so I walked over to Target to “test” some of the scales and see if I could figure out my weight. But all three I tried were wildly different (all lower than my previous weight though!) so I have no idea what I weigh still. I think I will just break down and buy one so at least I’ll be measured on the same one regularly, even if it’s not 100% accurate. I estimate that I have lost about 17 lbs so far. I do know that I have been wearing clothes that haven’t fit me in years (I know, I shouldn’t have still kept them, but I did!).
I also went off the blood pressure meds this week. My bp is on the borderline (120/85 and 125/80 the 2 measurements I took this morning) so I need to watch it, but I hope with a little more exercise and weight loss this will go down too.
I started week 3 of the Couch to 5K program, so last night I did 2 sets of running 90 seconds, walking 90 seconds, running 3 minutes, walking 3 minutes. I was surprised to find myself very able to do it- the slow progression of the program built me up to it so it wasn’t too difficult. Kizmet, if you’re interested in seeing what the schedule is, here is a link, if I’m allowed to post them: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml I understand not liking cold weather- I’m glad I live in AZ! I have started wearing long sleeves when I run in the evenings now and when I go back to IL at Christmas, I will definitely have to make a plan to stay warm!

Well, I was afraid to try on those size 12 blue jeans because of the abundance of chocolate during the week of and the week after Halloween and I was not at all disciplined about “doing things in moderation”.
But after KT’s question on the 16th, I decided to check things out and was I surprised!! Not only were they easier to zip up, but I was able to spend all last evening with friends sitting around and talking *and* while they were a little tight, they were comfortable !! Now I will admit the size 14 jeans are more comfortable – sorta like the difference between a bathrobe and nice dress. But I am able to wear the size 12s (and I’m sure that being a little tight will remind me not to overindulge).
PLUS – since that went well, I tried on one of my skirts (it *is* a full skirt) that I haven’t worn in quite some time and while it’s a little tight as well, I’m wearing it today (Nov 18th) and it’s a size 10 !!!
Wow, was it easy to get up this morning to do my 30 minute aerobic walk!
Thanks KT for helping me take that extra step and for everybody in MMII for the inspiration and support!!
