From KT – June 4, 2012
Yo DaVita!
Day 2 of our grand adventure, which by the way this year includes 8 of our international teammates, another MTM first.
I subjected myself to a deep tissue massage last night in yet another effort to get my pulled hamstring healed more quickly – it was 60 minutes long, 30 minutes of it pure pain (as those of you who have had therapeutic massage can attest to), so I ask your permission to add that 30 minutes to my daily tally. Believe me even the other 30 minutes are not oriented towards pleasure, instead they are focused on identifying the trigger points where pain will be inflicted. So let me know!
I messed up last night and kept doing work email too long, until about 10:45 pm, which always cuts into my workout in the morning. But I did 26 minutes of modest life cycle, 5 minutes covering 3 stretching exercises, and 40 push-ups. Total of 34 minutes.
I had a healthy fiber cereal breakfast, and salmon with broccoli for lunch. I will have a little strawberry snack this afternoon.
As for my workday I did DaVita voicemail while on the lifecycle, and my first call was not until 8 am. My day is filled with meetings until 7 pm, covering everything from compliance to public policy to HealthCare Partners(that is the company we just announced we are buying). Then I will do another painful massage, the a little evening email.
I hope each of you is off to a strong start – remember we are a team, there are over 2600 of us now!
Let’s Do It!! KT

I definitely think the pain of a deep tissue massage counts as a workout! That is no fun! 🙂 This is my first MTM, and I am excited for my team, The Twisters of Madison County, to make great progress during the challenge. Southern Horizons Region 5 is going to do great things this year!!! 🙂

I absolutely think that your massage counts! You probably burned more calories moaning and groaning on the table as you do walking 30 mins!
I want to agree with above comments… The DaVita Admissions team is very hyped up to participate, and we even have competing teams within the office here at the Lodge! Go team Fluffy! A little less fluffy and a little more fine!

This is my first participating in Match the Mayor. I was lucky enough to get to start strong by hiking up at Crater Lake, OR. I went up on the rim of the Crater up to almost 8000′ on a 2.5 mile round trip trail. It would have been 3 miles, but a snow field covered the trail forcing me to turn back.
Go Team Tunaimi!

Hi KT. I am really excited to participate in this program. Thanks for extending Match the Mayor to family. I like to pretend I’m a teammate because I SO LOVE what you all are about. Now, I don’t have to pretend!! (-:
Having said that, I’m not so sure I agree with the painful part of the deep tissue massage counting. Don’t kick me out, please!

Just happy that the MTM program started…always looking forward to it. It’s one of the programs that best encourages teammates to work together in order to accomplish a healthier enviroment.Love it, beacause eventhough anyone can participate the program is really designed for the “Village teammates”.

Tuesday; walked the dog about 5 this morning. It’s the best time of day here in AZ in the summer. Breakfast is 1 egg, 1 egg white, turkey bacon with fat free cheese on a 100 calorie roll. A little of my favorite hot sauce (Gunslingers) and I’m good to go! Will do some strength training tonight and maybe another walk depending how hot it is- Have a great day everyone!!

Well the massage sounds good and painful….sorry about your pulled muscle. This morning I ate high fiber cereal, half a muffin with cream cheese and I hit the trail running. Did 2 mile run and 1 mile walk. Did not even feel like getting on the treadmill but once started I just kept going. Plan to do weights this evening after work!!!! Have a blessed day and be safe!! 🙂

Remember pulled hamstrings take time to heal, or you’ll just injure it again. My middle aged dog and I are enjoying late spring in Wisconsin with our daily walks which we are slowly making longer. Right now we both have the same side effects–stiffness after a walk. But I am determined to improve, and eventually do more. Maybe even try biking the 4 miles to work by midsummer!

I’ve given up on deep tissue and instead go for my body flow (yoga, pilates, tai chi combination)class and fascials. Then again, I am only working to combat muscle tension and not injury.

You’re ok with massage as long as I’m ok with walking thru Hotel hallways 20 mins upstairs & down while nurses were listening to Home Choice inservice. Only had to explain to hotel security once why I was walking so fast, I’m sure they thought I was nuts. Finished walk at home with the dog. Don’t forget family time.

Hey KT,
Sorry to hear about injury – sound pretty painful. Well this is my first year joining and let me just say, I’m soo glad I joined. I missed on Sunday because I thought it started on Monday, 4th (at least for me my diet and exercise fads always starts on Mondays) lol However, as tired as I was yesterday I dragged myself to the gym and did an hour on the cardio machine. I was shock to see I did 4.9miles and burned 560 calories considering Ive never really stayed on a machine that long. I just reminded myself that I didn’t do any exercise on Sunday as my motivator 🙂 I think I talk a walk on the beach today since it’s beautiful out here in Southern California.
Keep up the good exercise everyone 🙂
