Yo DaVita HealthCare Partners!
It is Monday morning and I am back on the grid. It was absolutely wonderful to be off the grid for Friday and the weekend. Pretty much the only weekends I do not do some serious work are when I am on vacation (which I want all of you to take advantage of you vacation time!), or off the grid in the woods. So it just feels amazing.
Let me quickly relay the camp info – it is a men’s camp, with lots of music, theatre and guest speakers. There are about 1500 men there, spread across about 100 camps. I slept in a little hut, meaning just a simple square room, with screens for the walls on all four sides, a single light bulb in the middle of the room, 4 small single beds. We eat our meals at picnic tables. It’s great.
But I did not have the same control over eating as normal life. Every breakfast was 1 serving of fruit, and on Friday and Sunday I also had a second serving later in the day. I had one vegetable at lunch, and another at dinner, but that was it. So I have some catching up to do.
On the exercise front I did a 70 minute run/hike in the woods/hills on Friday, with 10 minutes of additional stretching and strength stuff. On Saturday I only did a quick 35 minute run/hike, and my time up the big hill was 11:34, 56 seconds slower than the day before. Sunday had a strong 100 minute run/hike with 10 minutes of additional healthy stuff after. The exercise was made a little more exciting by the fact there had been several mountain lion sightings near camp, including 3 moving around together which is unusual. I was out alone on Saturday, at that point I thought there had only been individual sightings. On Sunday I went out with a buddy.
I am sure I did poorly on the weight front, as I ate a lot and much of it was not healthy. So I am looking to rally, and I am looking forward to your help!
Right now I am working away on the plane, and I have meetings every minute all day as usual, followed by a business dinner. After dinner I need to unpack and re-pack, as I head out to the second quarter Board of Directors meeting tomorrow early evening. The summer meeting each year is focused on our overall strategy, so we do it up in the mountains to help us step back and think about the long-term, our strengths and weaknesses, the competition, government trends, etc. Super interesting stuff.
I am eager to hear how many teammates and citizens and friends are participating, and I hope that we are banding together to live healthier lives!!!! This company is New, it is Ours, and it could be Special. Darn straight.
Your Mayor, KT

Hey KT,
Thanks so much for your honesty. It’s good to hear the victories as well as the struggles. No one is perfect & each moment is an opportunity to learn & start over with different or better choices!
Thanks again,

KT you are totally amazing! You say you didn’t eat very well this weekend but you faced the danger of mountain lion packs to workout for over 3 hours! And the relaxing weekend helps to recharge batteries, so I would not focus on the negative, but all of the positive things you are doing for your mind and body. You got this! Even eating one salad a day will boost up your points and you will reach your goal in no time! You can do it! 🙂

You’re certainly on the run!! Literally! I started a dietary cleanse when I came back from vacation…as it was a VERY GOOD vacation!! Up 12 pounds which is something I can ill afford. It’s an all fruit and vegetable cleanse, the greener the better, and it consists of pureed vegetables and fruits, so needless to say, I’m hitting my daily fruit/veggie goals and then some. I do it yearly for 21 days, the book was written by a nurse and it’s called The Martha’s Vineyard Dietary Cleanse, 21 Pounds in 21 Days. It’s designed to cleanse your GI system of all the residual digested food that hangs out in our bowels thus causing health issues. Depending on how toxic your diet is, you may feel a little flu-like at first, but once that’s over, you have more energy, more vitality, your skin looks better and overall you feel amazing! The side effects…you lose weight! But that’s not the focus of the cleanse, and I found when I continue to juice, I’m healthier. Your body just absorbs all that goodness fruits and veggies have to offer.
Have a great week!!

Great for you KT! I enjoy to be in contact with nature. no matter if is the forest, the beach or the jungle. I always come back with peace of mind. Ready to work. The hiking in the woods compansate for the extra food you eat. So don’t worry about caching up. I bet you feel renew to star working again.
Auto observe to become the best of you.

I have been eating my salads with strawberries, blueberries, dried cranberries and sunflower seeds. I never thought it would taste so good.
I make my own dressing which you might like to try KT.
Take about one cup of water and add enough sugar to your liking. Add about a spoonful of minced garlic to it and a dash of red wine vinegar. Let set overnight in frig.
It is amazing how it taste on a salad.
Anyway thanks for creating the challenge. I hope it inspires others in the way it has me.

Rock on! I was thinking as I read your blog that the mountain lion sightings provided impetus for purposeful running…
Similarly, I have begun doing laps in the bay that wraps around our beautiful coast here in Florida: The sediment roiling 10 feet below the surface can take on frightening shapes if one’s imagination is left unchecked…more than once B-movie inspired horrors have threatened my labored crawl through the waves!
Your determination to succeed despite your schedule keeps me inspired – thanks!!
