Yo DaVitans,
This boy is back on the MM III trail with the rest of you 1169 stalwarts!
The keynote speech before about 250 young leaders in Nashville went well. I wish you all could have been there to hear your DaVita journey described, and the lessons we have developed around leadership and community caring.
I then did a fun town hall with the Team Music City team, that is the DaVita neighborhood in Nashville, about 400 teammates. Also a couple meetings with other companies.
My plane landed in Denver about 4:30. I scooted home and headed straight into the basement room with my stuff. I did 22 medium minutes on the bike, and 4 minutes of stretching. Not good in the normal sense, but given how tired I was and that this was my 6th city in 6 days, including 2 funerals, a speech and a Board of Directors meeting, I am not embarrassed.
This morning, Saturday, was GREAT, however. Both physically and spiritually.
First thing I did 20 INTENSE minutes on the bike, no more of that medium stuff. I also did 1 set of push-ups (25 on the bozu ball), 1 set of crunches (75 fast ones), and 4 minutes of stretching. Then I was off to the DaVita Kidney Awareness Walk/Run, with my wife Denise.
We had over 500 people there! We raised over $20,000 for The Kidney Trust! We had teammates, non-teammates (over half of the participants were non-davitans), grandparents, lots of kids, 5 elected officials. In particular we walked/ran in honor of a DaVita Team Colorado teammate who tied of kidney problems just a few months ago. Her husband and young kids were at the event as well, that was pretty emotional.
It was GLORIOUS to see all these citizens of the world out on the path, moving to raise $ for a good cause, and encouraging each other just like Match the Mayor.
I also ran the 5k, which is a tad over 3 miles. It took 27 minutes, so my total today was a strong 55 minutes, and I am back on track with the rest of our Match the Mayor team. By the way I also had my kidney checked by the Kidney Trust tent – and my kidneys were pronounced to be just fine. Please make sure you do the same.

Hi KT,
Yes, I am the Toni you rode with on the tour at times. That stretch is challenging. I’ll try to explain it in words but may need to send you a picture…ha, ha! Anyway, pull your Right knee up to your chest while balancing on your left leg. Then slowly extend your right leg out behind you while bending over at the waist with your arms out like the wings of an airplane. Hold that pose for a count of 5 to 10 and then step back onto your right leg. Repeat with the other side and do up to 10 reps. Be careful, remember it gets easier after the first couple of tries.
Thank you, you were fun to talk with also. It is nice to know that the owner of a company is just a regular guy like the rest of us. That makes my day. And yes, I am still giving all my patients hugs everyday. They let me know how much they missed them while I was gone on the tour; they loved the pictures I brought back. Take care and keep up the good exercise routines.

Good morning KT and fellow MMs!
Congrats on your speech in Nashville this weekend, KT. You made us proud, I’m sure.
I spent a very laid-back weekend; my DH (dear hubby) and I drove up to the North Shore of Lake Superior on our annual Fall colors tour. It was glorious! Gorgeous weather and beautiful colors – trees, lake, and sky. We got out of the car frequently to go on mini-hikes and take pictures and ate at Grandma’s in Duluth – moderation in spite of the menu – I did great! No dessert and no alcohol – hence no wasted calories. Thanks to MM team for being the “angel” sitting on my shoulder as I was perusing that menu! You spoke louder than the “devil” sitting on my other shoulder encouraging me to order wine or beer w/ my meal and dessert afterwards! THANKS!
I spent 45 minutes at the gym last night after work, dividing my time between cardio first and then circuit and core training. I too love the bosu ball for core work. I asked DH for one for my birthday last March so I use one at home and at the gym and it’s so great for core.
Kudos on your fundraiser for The Kidney Trust! Impressive!
P.S. my old kidneys are doing great, too!
