From KT – June 10, 2013
Greetings to the good people of Davita-Land,
It is after midnight on Monday night, I just arrived in my hotel room in DC. Because of storms my plane was late, so I dropped off my luggage at the hotel and went straight to the restaurant where I was having dinner with a member of the Board of Directors. But let’s step back a bit.
It was a bad night of sleep, as whatever is wrong with my left set of ribs made rolling over very painful. I finally got up at 3 am and took part of a sleeping pill to pursue some quiet time. It worked. I then got up at 6 and had a great 53 minute bike ride, solid intensity with some relevant hills. I saw a couple deer, and it was very quiet and peaceful. This helped make up for the uncomfortable night. I did 10 minutes of PT after that, and then hustled to shower and pack.
Off to Omaha I went for a lunch with Warren Buffet, perhaps the most famous investor in world history. We spent an engaging two and a half hours together, I would like to think that is because he found it engaging. He is a genuine and thoughtful human being, just as you might have heard. I felt it was an honor to represent our Village as an example of a company with the kind of values that he believes in.
Having said that, I did have a diet caffeinated soda today, my first in MTM VI. Because of the poor sleep last night I was just dying on my flight from Omaha to DC, and I needed to get a lot of work done. I have to leave at 8 am tomorrow, for a full day here in DC – so I need to keep this message short, as I need to check some other messages. I hope most of you had a weekend where you reached your daily goals, and felt the power of our almost 4,000 participants!!
Until tomorrow, take care …. kt

Hello KT and the Village! One thought on the caffeine dilemma: Tea can be a good alternative to sodas for a much needed caffeine boost, and it is believed to have health benefits. Black tea typically has the highest levels of caffeine and there are lots of iced tea options, particularly at this time of year. I love brewing my own iced tea and adding fruit and/or mint can personalize the flavor to your liking. Good luck to everyone in their health pursuits for MTM and beyond!

Dear KT,
Amazing to have the opportunity to sit and talk to Warren Buffet…while reading about him…he seemed like Andrew Carnegie.
If you have time and would like to prepare a drink for the bike rides; this might help. To a litter of water add a pinch of sea salt, a table spoon of black strap molasses (organic and unsulfured); the juice of a fresh lime/lemon and half a dropper of liquid chlorophyll.
Artificial sweeteners have been found to be able to evoke an insulin response (is spite of being sugar free) and thus, may also contribute to weight gain, and inflammation.
Based on this, regular soda might be better, since they might not contain aspartame, an artificial sweetener and considered a neurotoxin by some. Notice, regular sodas, when made with HFCS, have been found to contain mercury in significant quantities.
This message was written with the best of intention and wishing you a great trip and the best physical shape.
Thank you.
Alejandro

KT,
With all you do, you still take the time to write blog posts to your TEAM in DaVita-Land! I have to say: it is no wonder that you are so successful. You put your employees near the top of each day’s “adventures!” (I hope this doesn’t sound like brown-nosing, because I really mean it!)
Good luck with the Diet Coke; I, too, struggle with letting go of that vice. I try to drink only one per day and water the rest of the day. I think I will try to have one every other day, and then eliminate them altogether. Sounds like a new goal!
Sweet Dreams,
T. J.

Hey KT! Good update–busy schedule. It’s amazing that you are still challenging your body with so little sleep and so much air travel. I can totally relate. I have a B&B on the beach here and also work for DaVita. 24/7 work really affects my body and brain. Lunch with Warren Buffet is on my bucket list. Wow. Keep up the good work for the Village, KT! I would love to meet you at our beautiful DaVita Seaview Center in Long Beach, WA. I am Jeff’s sister and he said to say “hi”! Susie Goldsmith

What a beautiful day today. Wish I could have enjoyed it for more than 90 seconds at a time as I moved from car to building and building to car.

I have tried tea several times over the last year. I don’t really like it. But perhaps that is because I have gotten used to the taste of diet soda. I will try again.

My side is much better today, could be the first night of good sleep since Friday, First night I don’t wake up each time I roll over, from the pain. Hope springs eternal!

It is clear I will have to get better at getting enough sleep if I want to make it easier to kick the diet coke habit. Best of luck in your reduction!

I would love to visit..But 2000 centers in the US makes academies my best way of interacting with more teammates. I love it when I get the chance to do an Academy.
Take Care!
