Yo DaVita!
For all of you who did what you had hoped to do today, please rejoice in your accomplishment! You deserve to give yourself a pat on the back, even though it is only one step on the journey. Since the journey is nothing but a collection of single steps. And you did what you said you would do. No brag, just fact.
And picture the fact that as you did it … whether it was reading for an hour, exercising for x amount of minutes, or eating 5 servings of fruits and vegetables…A couple thousand fellow citizens were doing the same thing, and cheering you on for this step in determining your future.
I did 26 minutes on the bike. It was my third consecutive day of dialing up the intensity over the levels I had pedaled over the last 6 months; I think it must just be the energy created by knowing I will be reporting to a couple thousand “friends” about what I am up to. That is a good thing for me!
I then did about 13 minutes of rehab, 90% on my shoulder, the rest on my knee, so 39 minutes total. I will share my PT tracking log in a few days because I just got some new exercises.
BUT IN ADDITION, I went another day without a diet coke (or any other caffeinated diet drink)!!! 3 days, long time since I have avoided those chemicals. Please remember that my goal was to average one per day, versus what has probably been an average of 1.6 a day for many months.
As to my weight goal, my weight fluctuates a lot so I don’t want to report on daily numbers. Also I weight myself at home, on the same scale, immediately after I get up … to do my best to maintain apples to apples comparison. So far it is down a tiny bit.
As to the day, I had a doctor’s appointment in mid-morning, after a couple phone calls and email sessions. I also do work calls as I am driving, so there is no waste. Once in the office, it was a series of meetings, normal intensity and variety, until I left for the airport in the late afternoon. I flew to Utah, in time for a dinner with 3 highly successful CEO’s talking about their company stories. That was followed by 90 minutes of public policy debate with some other executives and me, until about 10:30 pm. I will listen to about 6 more CEO’s tomorrow morning, then go to my hotel room for phone calls, then fly to Chicago. I will have scheduled calls on the rides to and from the airports, as usual, and then a beer with one of our DaVita execs before a meeting. Then we will do dinner with a CFO candidate. Then we will do a further debrief on the dinner and some general business stuff.
We do hard work, it is cool that when we do it well, it benefits other people so directly and powerfully. Begin with the End in Mind.
One for All & All for One …. KT

Great job, KT!
I fasted myself off of Diet Coke/Diet and root beer last year. Every once in a blue moon I crave for a taste. When I take a drink I think how gross! So glad I do not have that habit now.

Way to go on the Diet Coke…..I joke often I am a Diet Coke-a-holic but truthfully it is just sad. Last year I noticed I was up to 8 cans a day. I slowly weaned myself down to 2 a day but life happened and I am back up to 6 a day. One of my goals during MTM is to decrease my pop intake dramatically. I have cut out some but 4 is still to high.

KT,
Your journal entries are really inspiring; thank you for doing this.
Good job with the cokes. Something I learned recently is that craving carbonated beverages is a sign of a calcium deficiency. Ironically, soft drinks deplete your body of minerals, including calcium, so a vicious cycle is created!
For all of us who find water boring (although I have learned to like it), add some organic lemon to your water – citrus has vital minerals and provides many, many benefits to your system, especially if you add a lot of lemon juice to warm water first thing in the morning — what a boost to your metabolism! I also add honey and sometimes ginger, for added help with seasonal allergies and digestion.
Other good foods for getting calcium include almonds, greens (spinach, broccoli, collards, kale…), almond milk, oatmeal, salmon, figs, pumpkin seeds, and avocado; the list goes on and on.
Warm regards,
Mrs. TFC

Hi KT: I’ve been losing weight since December – without a disciplined exercise program. My goal for MTM 6 is to lose another 10 pounds, add exercise to my overall program and continue the exercise beyond MTM to hit my ultimate weight loss goal by the end of 2013.
Your daily blogs are inspiring and will help keep me motivated. Thanks for taking the time to share!
Cathy

KT, Thank-you so much for sharing your journal each day. I get inspired just reading your post at night. I had the pleasure to get to go to FAST last week in Denver and it was amazing. KT, you taking the time and talking with our class was so inspiring for everyone. One for all and all for one.
