I have joined a yoga class, which I have never done before. It is proving to be alot more difficult than I thought and I am sore from stretching muscles that haven’t been stretched in (I hate to admit), years. I used to walk around the lake near my home a couple of days a week, but now that the weather has turned cold and rainey, I have begun stopping at the local mall on my way home from work two nights a week in addition to the yoga classes. I never thought I would be a mall-walker, but then I never thought I would practice yoga either! Thanks for the encouragement, KT.

I signed up for Match the Mayor hoping it would encourage me to find time to exercise 15 to 30 minutes a day. Today, I finally did it! I found 15 minutes to complete some sit ups and stretching. I have plenty of will to do it, I simply cannot find the time with three kids and my spouse and I working full time. We have re-arranged our schedule many times and I wind up choosing sleep over exercise, as I cannot function without a clear mind. Hopefully, this working Mom can repeat tomorrow and the day after and so on. My ultimate goal is to eventually get back into weight and endurance training!

I started exercising a week ago and I feel great. I have more energy and my concentration is better. I started slow since I have not exercised in a while. I allowed so many other things interfer with exercising in the past, but I decided, this is it! It is time to start doing some type of physical activity. I started with only 15 minutes on the tread mill at 2.5 miles per hour on the first day. I am now doing 30 minutes on the tread mill at 3.5 miles per hour and feeling great. I will continue and advise those who have not begun, to do so.

I’m really excited about my progress so far so I thought I would share!
Since I started really trying to get healthy (a month ago?) I have now lost 14 lbs, and as of today, my doctor says I should be totally off my blood pressure medications in two weeks!

I have started running as my form of exercise- luckily, I have several friends who run, and they help encourage me. One friend told me about a program called C25K (Couch to 5K) that builds you up from not running much at all to being able to run 3 straight miles in two months! I have started this, and should do my first 5k before the end of the year. I also signed up for a 5K fundraiser in town this weekend- although I know I can’t run it all, I will listen to my C25K podcast and run/walk my scheduled routine during it, and walk anything I can’t run after that.

I told one of my friends that I was a little embarrassed to do the 5K since I’m not in good shape and can’t run it all like my friends, but she told me something encouraging: “Well, you’re beating all the people who stayed at home on the couch!” No need to be embarrassed, just get out there and run, and get better at it!

i’m going to try to get to the gym after work starting monday. i checked out the classes in the area- there are some good classes.
i used to work out all the time…so i know i can do this!!

2nd day in, I hit the Kickboxing class again. I could barely move my muscles from the class the day before, but the important thing is that I showed up and did the best that I could. For those of you that find it hard to exercise working and exercising, I would suggest either finding a gym that offers a daycare or take a walk in a park or somewhere the kids can tag along. If we begin to teach our kids a healthy lifestyle at a young age, they won’t have to deal with some of the weight and health issues that we struggle with. I know I have the worst walk right now from all the sore muscles, but hey, “No Pain No Gain”… Let’s Do it Davita family!!!!

I recently started watching my caloric intake and now force myself to 1200 calories a day. I just recently discovered that if you don’t eat enough calories then you won’t lose the weight. I work full time and go to school at night so my eating habits are very sporatic. So I thought, as long as I am eating 1200 calories a day, I should be okay. WRONG! I learned that I can’t eat all my calories in 1 meal. After talking to our dietician, I learned the importance of including all of the food groups in your diet and eating smaller meals several times a day. I have more energy when I eat this way. I won’t say that I behave myself everyday because I do fall back into those old habits sometimes. Each day is a new day! Since I am always at work or school, I have decided to purchase a treadmill so that I can exercise whenever I get the chance. Keep up the great work everyone!
