From Dennis – October 28, 2010
Hello DaVita,
Well the Mayor will be back in a few days and we can hear how he did over his time away!
As promised I stayed away from any serious exercising today. My sore aching body was sending me a message, let me rest! So I did!
During yesterdays Krav session, we worked on defending yourself from aggressive front kicks. So for about 30 minutes my instructor just kicked me to force me to defend or redirect the kicks. You defend against low kicks in this style by using your lower leg. For those that have been kicked in the shins before you know how much that hurts, even when wearing pads!!
Good healthy day from a food intake perspective. I had healthy cereal, low fat milk for breakfast and a salad for lunch with a grilled chicken breast. It’s too early to think about dinner, but it will be healthy. I’m more aware of what I eat on non gym days then when I work out.
Back in the studio tomorrow at 5:30 a.m. Look forward to updating you tomorrow!
Be well and do something special for yourself today!

Hi, Dennis and teammates –
I’ve had to be faithful on my dessert avoidance this week, as I travelled to my hometown last weekend for an event and spent the night at my sister & BIL’s house. I had (from 5PM-midnight) ~5-6 Oktoberfest beers. Granted it was over a long period of time, but that was a LOT of unnecessary calories. Plus, then when my sister brought snacks out while we were playing cards, I was far less successful at resisting the home-baked treats that she had made. Overall, a very bad day for nutrition! Consequently the scale was up on Monday, so I’ve had to remain diligent on my exercise and my nutrition this week. I’ve been through a couple of really aggressive workouts (400-calorie burners) and a couple of easier-paced sessions with some walking, stationary bike, and stairs, so I feel better and back in control.
Today there is a Halloween potluck at work and several teammates brought sweets and goodies, while others brought healthier fare. My secret weapon is a good, nurishing breakfast, with a healthy snack (fruit) maybe about 10 and maybe another small snack about 11AM so I don’t feel weak and vulnerable to the less-healthy food choices at lunch.
Have a wonderful weekend!
All for one!

Dear Pamela
Thanks for your letter. I guess we all have our bad days, so thank goodness for the gym and exercise. We work hard, so I think an occasional indulgence in some junk food is OK, everything in moderation, right?
Be well and take care!
Dennis
