Match the Mayor Welcomes Dennis Kogod!
Good morning Davitans
I am pleased to be able to fill in for our mayor on match the mayor!
I am a huge believer in taking time to exercise. I got serious about in 1999, I remember the events. I was a smoker, woke up one morning while on a business trip and decided it was a good day to quit and to start taking better care of myself. A good day to start exercising. I never looked back on those 2 critical decisions.
A little about my exercise program. I am pretty religious about maintaining a schedule, even if it means starting my day very early. Even with a hectic travel schedule, I always find a gym nearby where to my hotel. I do some form of exercise 5-6 times a week. While I try to watch my diet, I have a sweet tooth, so it is important for me that I stick to my schedule and work off those occasional cookies!
My workouts consistent of some time in the gym and some time in a self defense studio. My gym work outs are a combination of cardio and free weights. Try to do that combination 3 times a week! A typical workout for me takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
So here we go. Saturday October 16
Great day for a workout. Weather wasn’t great so didn’t feel like I was missing anything outside.
Spent an hour doing, some cardio, upper body workout and some stretching. No matter how tired I am going in, I always feel better leaving, much better.
Taking today (Sunday) off
Tomorrow a.m., I’m starting my day early. Started taking Krav Maga about 6 months ago, a form of martial arts. Love it! I try to get to the studio 3 mornings a week. My instructor opens up the studio at 0500, and is pretty flexible about my travel schedule. These are the most intense workouts I have ever experienced.
So, I look forward to hearing from you about how you are doing. Please keep up the efforts and no matter what type of exercise you do, make the time for it, keep yourself healthy, nothing more important!
One for all!

Good morning, all! And welcome to Monday!
I remained disciplined in my workouts and my nutrition this weekend, in spite of temptations to do otherwise – knowing that I was with you guys and Matching the Mayor helped me to stick to business and today I’m wearing a skirt that I bought that was just a tad tight (sometimes I do that for the extra motivation to work hard enough to get into something new!)
I agree with our trusty Mayor in that I also focus on these four components for my workouts: cardio, strength, flexibility and balance. Cardio is by far my least favorite, so I typically do that one first to get it out of the way. My favorite is strength, so I have to work at balancing that one out with the other three. To assist me in that endeavor, I did sign up with a trainer for one year, from September 2009 to September 2010. So I have a whole years’ worth of trainig workout sheets to utilize as I go forward – I mix n match to create workouts of my own, or just flat out copy them straight off a prior workout sheet to do.
I am astounded at how much better my balance is, as well as enjoying increased strength, stamina, and sleep. Had I known how much better I would sleep, I would have started exercising years ago! LOL!
Have a great week, everyone!
P.S. Go Vikings!!

Dear Dennis and Fellow Teammates,
It is always a pleasure to participate in the Match the Mayor with all of you. I enjoy reading KT’s blog as well as your comments. It is so important to eat right and exercise right. Keep up the good work!
I have one question for Dennis . . . now that you are filling in for our mayor, does this mean that you will be a Green Bay Packer fan for the next two weeks?!? I hope so . . . it is always so much fun to have another Packer Fan!!!
Have a great day and an awesome week everybody!

Dear Pamela
I enjoyed your letter and your commitment and passion for exercise came through. Sounds like you are doing some great stuff, so please keep it up and try to convince a few more folks of the great things that come with a program like the one you described
Be well and congrats

I remain committed to exercise and nutrition because I’ve vowed no more yo-yo-ing with my weight and fitness. Since we had our family in the late ’80’s I’ve gone up and down multiple times on the scale as I’ve tried one “fad” diet or exercise trend or another. Now that I’ve lost a majority of my excess BMI and regained fitness, I’ve made the commitment not to ever go back up again – – – and that means continuing at the gym a minimum of 3x/week regardless of my schedule or calendar as well as maintaining healthy nutrition daily, with treats and less-than-healthy fare an exception rather than the rule! This Match-the-Mayor event helps me to remain focused on that goal because we’re all doing it together!
