Yo DaVita!
It is Tuesday morning, the beginning of Day 17. I weighed in at 195 for the fourth consecutive day, so the two pound loss does seem legitimate.
I have worked out all but two of those days, so I am sure that has helped — even though some of those workouts were just 20 minutes on the bike with some stretches and sit-ups. Every little bit helps if I do them often enough through the course of the year. Over the last several years I have averaged exercising about 75% of the days of the year.
I track my exercise every day. I find I do more exercise when I track it, and do more of it during the sessions. I have a point system, so the more I do on any given day, the more points I get. By tracking it I force myself to stare at what the actual patterns are, so I can’t hide behind an excuse like “it was a bad week” very often without admitting to myself that I am putting exercise too low on the priority list.
I typically know what time my exercise is scheduled for on each of the next 21 days or so, so it is protected. Given my schedule, which is typically full going out 6 weeks or so, I have to do that or exercise will get squeezed out.
I have another four day streak without a dessert. I had chicken and beans for lunch yesterday. Pork tenderloin and zucchini last night for dinner. And my normal breakfast this morning.
In about two hours I leave with my family to spend two weeks in China. During the first week we will be at the Olympics. During the second week my son and I will be traveling around other parts of China. I am incredibly excited, I have not had a two week vacation in a long time — but doing China for one week did not make sense given the time and money it takes to get there.
Therefore I will not be doing any Match the Mayor updates for a bit. It will be hard to get my normal exercise on this trip, so I hope I can reduce my calorie intake.
I saw some good fistula numbers yesterday — Congratulations!!!!
One for All,
KT

I have always been an exercise person until I took the FA role. KT has inspired me because if he can fit it in I can too. I am a dietitian as well as an FA so I know the right things to do. I just need to take the time to take care of myself and when I do this I have more energy to give to my teammates and family. Thank you for your example KT. Even though we are in a busy and stressful industry it does not mean are health should suffer. In fact those of us in the health care field should set a good example. I have started my exercise and keep track of my food. If my AA would stop feeding me chocolate I would do better! She did not bend my elbow though. I am feeling so much better and I have lost 1 pound. It’s a start! Thanks DaVita for supporting good health!!

Ok, drank the kool-aid and am motivated to drop some pounds. My wife and I took advantage of our corporate discount at 24-hour fitness on Saturday and we both started our workouts for Sunday and Monday. They have a great 30 – minute exercise area that cycles your through a 30 minute program to get exercise on all major body parts. Monday I swam laps for 30 minutes. I’m taking today off and will start back on Wednesday. My goal is 10 pounds in the remaing Match the Mayor program.
Congrats to all who have signed up and the key is not intensity, but consistency. Wish you all the best of success.

I have been working at figuring out where I can find the extra time in my busy day to squeeze in another hour to train for Tour DaVita. It’s August 12th and the Tour is a month and two days away. The longest time I have been able to ride is one and a half hours and putting that kind of time together is not an easy fete with my schedule. I came up with a plan this morning that just might work: If I go in to work an hour earlier, I will get off work an hour earlier and that will give me one extra hour to extend my ride to two and a half hours. I am going to start there and see where it goes. I don’t want to think about how I am going to feel when I get to WI and go for eight hours in the saddle… OWWWWW, OWWWW, OWWWW. The only thing that gets me past that thought is, “I will not be alone.” 🙂

I have the eating part down pat–today is the 19th day I have not eaten sugar or flour, and I know I am losing weight because clothes are fitting differently. And, by focusing on vegetables, fruit, protein and water, my cravings for sweets and carbs are gone. But I have difficulty finding the time to exercise–I have so many excuses. But if KT can do 30 minutes a day with his hectic schedule, than I can too. I can break it down into three 10 minute sessions, or 2 15 minute sessions. This Match the Mayor campaign is motivating to me; it’s helpful to hear how others are doing and to have a place to express myself on these issues. My goal is to exercise daily, BUT I can only do that one day at a time. Today I will walk for 15 minutes right when I get off work, before I get in my car. I am meeting a friend at 2000 hours for another short walk.

Hey, where are the other 344 teammates that signed up for this program? Let us know how you’re doing; you never know when something you do or say will help someone else. I, for one, need your help and support!
Because of making a public commitment here, I did walk 15 minutes before getting in my car to go home last Thursday, but I haven’t done any other exercise since. More excuses. I am going to get up earlier in the morning and do 30 minutes of swimming or weight lifting AT THE GYM, not at home as there are too many distractions at home. I don’t get up on time as I think I am tired, but exercising instead will give me more energy! I will report back in.

Tomorrow I am off to the beach for R&R, and to get back on track with my exercise program. Where are the 550 other teammates who commited to Match the Mayor? I need your support, and your stories give me motivation.
