Podcast: Home Dialysis First

“Home first” has become a slogan in the nephrology community, but what does that slogan mean? Listen to this podcast, in which Ashley Henson interviews Mamatha Gandhi, MD, on how Dr. Gandhi has implemented the culture of home first into her practice and how she became a champion for home dialysis. Dr. Gandhi also discusses some of the challenges in starting a home program and the tools needed to make such a program successful.

Mamatha Gandhi, MD

Dr. Gandhi is board certified Internal Medicine and Nephrology. Dr. Gandhi graduated from St. Johns Medical College in Bangalore India in 2005. She moved to Syracuse, New York to complete her internal medicine resident at SUNY, Upstate Medical University. She then pursued her fellowship in Nephrology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and completed it in 2011. She is trained in providing care for patients with renal diseases, dialysis and transplantation. She is currently a member of the American Society of Nephrology. In addition to patient care, she is a mother to a delightful boy and girl. She enjoys running, traveling, listening to music, and painting. Dr. Gandhi is on the board for the Physicians Who Care organization and has been actively involved in their charity events in the community. She lives in Birmingham with her husband, Dr. Anurag Gandhi, an Infectious Disease physician.
