The 2019 DaVita Health Tour Starts Winding Through California
The 2019 DaVita Health Tour has wrapped up its first week, and one thing is clear: Californians sure are excited about their health.
We kicked things off with an appearance on Fox 5 in San Diego, spreading the news about the tour and the catalyst for our mission: one in seven people have kidney disease, and most don’t know it. But as health care providers, it’s our duty to raise awareness so those affected can start getting the care they need.
The tour bus headed down the I-5 to our first stop, the 34th Annual Linda Vista Multi-Cultural Fair & Parade. The bus had a front-row seat to the parade—San Diego’s incredibly diverse community was on full display. The vibrant dancers, singers and instrumentalists were the perfect entertainment for everyone lined up for free health screenings at our DaVita mobile health clinic. We were honored to help educate the festival goers about the importance of knowing their risk for kidney disease. .
We also swung by Don Derr Park in Buena Park where a youth soccer tournament was underway. People enjoying the beautiful California day were surprised to be able to receive a free health screening in the middle of the park, and we were happy that many took full advantage.
Nothing could have ended the week better than our last patient saying, “This is so cool that you guys are here…” We couldn’t agree more.
154 screenings provided in our first week and new friends made along the way – and we’re just getting started.
