DaVita Lands on Military Times Best for Vets Index
Recently, DaVita was awarded and named to the Military Times Best for Vets Index. The investment index is designed to measure the performance of public companies who have demonstrated the most support of military veterans, service members and their families. To be included on the list, DaVita, also known as the Village, had to meet several criteria in veteran employment areas and financial measures. This includes being named as a top employer to the annual Military Times Best for Vets employer list for three years straight. Financially, a liquidity greater than $1 million in average daily dollar volume and a market capitalization greater than $200 million was required.
Financial analysts show that companies who have a focus on military-veteran recruiting generally outperform the market. And since its inception in 2010, the Military Times Best for Vets Index has outpaced the S&P 500. DaVita is joined on the list with many recognizable companies like Amazon, General Motors, Hilton, JPMorgan Chase, Verizon and Walmart. We were just 1 of 3 healthcare companies of the 37 total companies recognized on the index.
This recognition is huge for the Village. We have seen the value veterans bring first-hand at DaVita. In 2017, Village Veterans retained at a higher rate than non-veterans. This is no surprise to me – our mission and Core Values mirror that of our service branches, giving veterans a familiar culture to transition to and an environment to thrive in.
My journey as a veteran joining the Village started with moving to Denver and simply searching online for “military-friendly companies.” If DaVita had not shown up in that search, I would have likely not known about this special place. Congratulations to the Village on this wonderful award. I want every teammate to know that they can contribute to our veteran mission. Whether it’s referring a veteran through our employment system, hiring a veteran, partnering with People Services to participate in a veteran hiring event or creating a special place for those who have served, we can continue to become a military and veteran employer of choice.
