Kidney Diet Tips

Find potassium, sodium and phosphorus in your food with the DaVita Food Analyzer

Do you ever wonder if a food fits into your kidney-friendly diet? Now you can take a quick look at thousands of foods by using the DaVita Food Analyzer tool. Simply search for a food, select the portion and view the nutrient values for calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrate, fiber, sugars, protein, potassium, phosphorus and calcium.

Unlike many other food analysis sites, the DaVita Food Analyzer filters out foods that do not have values for potassium and phosphorus, two very important minerals that may be limited in a kidney diet. Some programs automatically add a zero value for data that is unavailable, giving a false low for potassium and phosphorus content of a food item.

Since food manufacturers are not required to include potassium and phosphorus nutrient information for their products these values are not available for many foods, mostly brand name products, restaurant and fast food items. Some manufacturers will provide this information if requested.

Do you want to track your daily food intake as well as look up the nutrients? DaVita Diet Helper has a Nutrition Log that allows you to track and keep a log of the foods you eat and compare your totals to the daily target. This tool also has a meal planner component with 3 weeks of meals planned to match your individual diet prescription.

Check out these valuable tools today to make following a kidney-friendly diet easy.
